New WhatsApp group to be created for the LRSC since the old one was no longer being monitored. Members were encouraged to report any hazards or safety concerns in between meetings, using this forum.
Ground frequency should be in operation by latest end of Q2 2026.
Taxiway lights for Echo are being actively pushed for by the airport manager who understands the necessity. However, the acquisition is delayed by the government organization approval and procurement process. No time span set for completion.
Maintenance is still being carried out on the apron, in particular by oneoperator, despite reprimands and warnings. Concern about the amount of FOD being generated by this non permitted activity.
Awareness of emergency and fire procedures by general airport staff was found to be severely lacking and a retraining program was ordered by the airport manager.
A demonstration of the newly procured wildlife and bird scaring equipment was given to the committee by the wildlife control officer. Equipment consists of a laser pointer, snake capture tools and bird call sirens affixed to the vehicle.
Concern about the bird hazard caused by the vulture sanctuary located on approximate 5nm base to runway 10. At feeding times, the vultures havebeen seen to be circling up to altitudes of > 10,000’. The sanctuary operators will be engaged to seek a mutually acceptable solution. Options discussed include cautions issued by ATC to pilots in the vicinity and the issuance of NOTAMs with scheduled feeding times.
The missing taxiway signage from G4, E and others has been purchased and should be installed within the next week.
The access road at Gate A (near Puma depot and NAC 2000) is scheduled for rehabilitation works.
